What is Optical Penetrating Keratoplasty (PK)?

Optical Penetrating Keratoplasty is a full-thickness cornea transplant. It is performed when all layers of the cornea are damaged, scarred, or diseased, preventing light from entering the eye properly. 

The Procedure: The surgeon removes a small, circular, button-sized disk of the diseased cornea and replaces it with a healthy donor cornea of the same size.
